One of my customers attempted to install MS SQL 7.0 Developer Edition from the 3rd CD that comes in the resource pack of Visual Basic 6.0 Pro. He needs to install it so my software could communicate with a MS SQL database on a remote server. I recently got this email from him:
Yash,
Here are the results from attempting to install MS SQL 7.0
First message:
Database Server Developer Edition Server cannot be installed on Win 98 using this CD. Only client components will be available for installation.
I chose 'OK' - no other choice.
File copy - OK
MDAC - OK
MMC - OK
MSDTC - OK
HTML Help - OK
ActiveX - see attached error message - this causes the installation to abort. I also tried to install just the desktop edition - same results.
This is a Pentium 4 1300 machine running Windows ME.
Your assistance would be appreciated!
Regards,
Andy
I believe only the client components are needed anyhow so installing Database Server Developer Edition Server is not required or is it? As he as explained, during installation, he got an error message which I have attached below. I too have Visual Basic Pro and the CD which comes in the resource pack does install it perfectly on my system...
I am not an expert at this, but....
Do you have any idea what is '_int5176'. Might be some executable file included in the setup program. Check for it in the window's temporary folder. 'C:\Windows\Temp'. It might be giving some problems in it's execution. Have you tried restarting.

I am not a hundred percent sure, but I think the Developer and Enterprise editions have to be on a NT/2000/XP OS. I think this is because ME(and under) don't support the user accounts the same way as the NT based OS's do. What about just installing the MSDE on it. It should be all that is needed probably.
