A extremely cool all in one web browser, anyone in?

Hey everybody, I recently had an idea. See I get bored sometimes over the long summer, as do most of us, and I am always looking to create something in VB, so I came up with this idea. A sweet web browser that would have tons of utilities crammed into it. For example, an mp3 player, maybe games, etc. I'm open to any ideas you might have...

I'm looking specifically for people who know how to do resizing with different resolutions and how to utilize the progress and status bars. Also, as long as you know something about the web browser control, then you can help too!

Also, I'm thinking of possibly creating a development team and starting a website. Maybe we could design programs for people for $$$ or something, who knows. So if you're in, reply, pm me, or email me @ ryanu03@comcast.net....

A web browser with an Mp3 player and games? No offence, but that's the worst idea I've ever heard. If I want an Mp3 player, I'll go download Winamp. If I want games, I'll go to Best Buy. And if I want a browser, I'll go download a browser.

And I'm willing to bet 95% of the internet community (you have to remember that 80% of that 95% are AOLers) aggrees with me.

One project I was going to start, but haven't yet, is a program that is an FTP and a File Editor at the same time.

What it does is connects to your FTP, then allows you to edit files and then when you save it, it'll save a tmp copy of the file and then upload it to your FTP server. So you can edit files on the server without downloading them, changing them, and then uploading them.

Now it may seem like I'm trying to get back at you, but I am serious. WSFTP_LE already accomplished this :D :( .... I use it all the time.

Actually, I was working ona computer 2 or 3 years back where some f*** nut had deleted Netscape, and made IE not run... I had to create a web browser in Word VBA to use the net. Was fairly functional too... Told me when it was loading and stuff =).

Actually, something I was thinking about a while back was an application that connected to a server somewhere that connected you to a chat room with all of the users of the application that where at the current web page(or domain, or whatever). Could be interesting (tag, anyone?).

How about simply an enhanced Webbrowser that runs on the current version of IE's base? It could have things like OLE drag-drop emailing (for example, drag-drop an Mp3 and a word document/notepad document onto an email address, then send it without any fuss), a site preview window (a little window that pops up, showing a small preview of where the link takes you), and maybe a built-in IRC client that lets you connect to IRC just by clicking a link.

I usually browse with many windows open. Hence once I tried making a browser with multiple windows using IE as my base.

Actually, a more-featured web browser would have a chance to get popular. You would just need to add the features to the browser that non-techies would be interested in. I have worked on making my own browser in the past, and still use it occasionally.

One of the biggest features that would be desired is to be able to view more than one web page in a single window. The use of the tab control is applied here, and I love to use it in my app.

The implementation of an MP3 player could be popular, if implemented properly. It should be presented in a way that encourages the user to just use it as entertainment while surfing, not a replacement for WinAmp. To develop a replacement, would entail building a search function, creating aliances with others to provide the user with a ready supply of music, and so on.

Other features that could be implemented is a built-in messenger system that brings Yahoo Chat, AIM, Hotmail, and the others into one single interface. Think about it, one chat application that brings all of your contacts from all of the chat services into one window. It boggles the mind, I swear.

Ever think about building a browser engineered to target a specific audience? What about a browser that is for webmasters? It's amazing the types of features you could put into a browser that a webmaster would want. It would also enable you to offer advertising in your browser at a premium, since it would be a highly targeted audience. What about a browser for the adult community? Here the possibilites are absolutely endless. Create an alliance with one of the AVS companies to become a premium affiliate, and hook into their database of sites to use as a search engine.

If done properly, a new web browser does stand a chance, but it would probably have to be geared towards a targeted audience to succeed.

BTW, I did create an FTP client that I thought was real good. Selling it was somewhat of a flop though. Consider this, when was the last time YOU bought an FTP application? I thought so. Me? I've never bought one. I always use freeware, and that's the problem.

Anyway, I would be real interested in helping out with a new web browser if anyone is still interested in attempting it.

LOL. I just built one right now! But I mean it ain't the best, just pretty basic. It kills pop-ups, that's the one good thing about it. Lol, but yea, I'm willing to create the browser. We're gonna need more than two people though, so if you want in reply.

1) Option to kill pop-ups.
2) Explore more than one site of course.
3) Maybe a little mp3 player.

You sound like one of the Netscape guys. I guess it's just me, but everything that you just said would turn me away from your browser.

More features = longer to load, more chances or errors, bigger resources, bigger file size = overkill. Just show me a damn webpage. That's what I want.

That would only happen if you use them all at once. I don't know a person that visits a webpage, listens to mp3's, plays games, and goes FTPing all at the same exact time.

ME ME ME ME ME ME! :D

Well not so much anymore... when I had my 56k, I would be uploading files to my ftp account, while trying to get a page to load, playing mp3s (cause my computer plays music 24/7[even when i'm not here]), and I would play a few games of solitaire while waiting for the page to load and the file to upload. That was all on a 200mhz processor and it worked fine... I don't think those are really processor-intensive programs though.

Oh yeah and my modem was a WinModem.
