Grrrrr....
A few weeks after Altnet's launch, Brilliant plans to introduce an Altnet "rewards program," enticing customers to swap PC bandwidth and hard drive space for points that can be redeemed by e-merchant partners, Bermeister says. If you agree to let Altnet's partners download to your hard drive multimedia-rich advertisements for later playback, you can earn points redeemable at e-merchants toward purchases.

I found out about this a couple of weeks ago too. I now use KaZaA Lite which is supposed to not include all that stuff. I think the URI is http://www.kazaalite.com/

That's 'cos you need to share stuff to go on the other servers (most of them will ban you if you're sharing less than 2gb of stuff). If you get into the other servers then close the default WPNP server cos otherwise everyone leaches from you (I get get up of putting people on my ignore list )

I think it's a shame what Kazaa has done right now.
That's why I prefer KaZaA Lite as well. Somehow WInMX doesn't work for me. And I just don't want to share that much files, 'cause it take a lot of bandwidth.

Kazaa sucks! It contains this thing called BDE that is supposedly a trojan. I use Kazaa lite now... that's like the original but someone hex-edited all the spyware crap out of it

did use and still use winmx.... i never found that you had to share 2GB even though i was sharing just over 5GB sometimes... most servers i found set it to say 10-20 files and you were on... and most of the time it was nice and quick

Are there also WinMX servers where you DON'T have to share files? I would love to, but it slows down my connections by 200% if suddenly 500 people start downloading my newest DivX ripped movie or someting.

AFAIK FastTrack is fully distributed, so no central servers at all. If that's true, screw the corporations! The underground will live forever!!!!
