The post count works fine, I just tested it.
As for the threads, it's probably happening because they pressed "New Post" instead of "Post reply"

The server kept freezing earlier, several times when people had just clicked "Submit New Thread". The record is inserted into the thread table, but then the freeze happens and you get no associated posts in the post table. So the thread shows up in the forum display, but of course there are no posts to show once you open that thread.
People then respond to the postless-threads, making their reply look like the first post

I know. It's been happening a lot because the server has been freezing like a naked bloke's balls in the arctic.
Couple of hours ago you'd be lucky to open a forum in ten minutes.
