I am new to VB and have just found Activeskin (which is a program for skining VB apps),I thought it was great untill I saw the price £179!! Can anyone help me find some way of doing the same thing, but with no or little cost.
PS, I know C and C++ and I don't mind getting my hands dirty in coding

Goto http://www.vbaccelerator.com and have a look at their downloads etc. They have a free ocx control for skinning ActiveX enabled languages. Also some links to skins

A lot of things from that site don't work on my PC, and i got a hell to make a certain one work, the toolbar thing, but then i deleted it because that wasn't what i wanted

writing software in C++ is like driving rivets into steel beam with a toothpick.
writing haskell makes your life easier:
reverse (p (6*9)) where p x|x==0=""|True=chr (48+z): p y where (y,z)=divMod x 13
To throw away OOP for low level languages is myopia, to keep OOP is hyperopia. To throw away OOP for a high level language is insight.

Hmmm....no problems on my PC
You probably haven't downloaded the subtmr thingy. Read the site instructions...almost all their controls require this additional ocx. Don't worry download it, extract, and register and everything should work ok.
