Beginning Graphics Programming

I've been programming in vb for years now and I've done a lot of things with it...except with the graphics part. What do I need to learn for a beginner in vb graphics programming? I have a book of Dan Appelmans (or is it) win api programming which I think would be very useful. But where do I start, like what are the basics? I really want to learn how to create a great user interface for my programs. Like applying skins to it, making some parts transparent or changing the shape of a form by adopting the shape of a bitmap or something.

I would reccomend that you start more basic like with bitmaps and sprites that move. Then build up from there.

If you want to do graphics programming in VB, the best thing you can do for yourself is get the book "Visual Basic Graphics Programming", by Rod Stephens. It will walk you through just about everything you could ever want to know, from simple lines and pixel plotting all the way up through 4D rendering. It is a great reference as well. I no longer program very much in VB anymore, and i still get use out of it for the algorithms.
