Anyone know a good free DVD decoder for W2K/XP?

DirectDVD 4.0 ES Edition gave a blank screen for a few minutes then timed out and said something along the lines of - "if you want more ofd the same give-us some money":(

I thought XP was supposed to do all this stuff for you :rolleyes:

Apparently, you can get PowerDVD for just $4.00, plus shipping, on NewEgg.

Because I would have paid for DirectDVD 4.0 ES but it didn't work. Nor does ULead so I'm not convinced.

Also shipping would be about $20 from the states and take about a month:rolleyes:

Just downloaded the trial version and it works but its $49.95 for the cheapest version which seems a bit steep for a 'driver'

I just checked out the system requirements for DirectDVD. I find it intesting that they seem to have forgotten to mention that you need to have a DVD drive..

Anyhow, I use PowerDVD 3.0 with no problems on Win2K, if that means anything. Try running the trial version of PowerDVD if you just want to see if it works:

Note that the trial version is severely limited. The only thing it is actually useful for is making sure it works. Then, if it does work, you can try finding someone who sells it from your country.

I've bitten the bullet and am downloading 4.0 now. The trial version worked fine. Seems to work for multiple regions too which is what I need. I'm intending to use it on XP so 4.0 is probably what I need. Thanks:)

TYpically the full version I juast downloaded crashed on the XP system after running for about five minutes and now won't run DVDs at all:rolleyes:

Two different systems so far. One an Athlon 1200 512MB RAM running under Windows 2K the other a Fresh installation of XP, same memory, Duron 700. I don't want to try any other machines as I don't want to destabilise too many systems.

Same here........installed from CD, followed steps, and was working a ok immediatly.................
