I have that brand new soundblaster 5.1 sound card and i'm running windows 2k pro. When i play MP3/WAV or simply WAV audio files off my computer and i decided to run something or just read something in the hard drive, the sound turns chunky and u can actually hear the hard drive really loud and stuff.

It didn't happen with Win98 so, it is a OS problem...

Any ideas to fix that?

wow, that is really really odd, It doesn't sound like your sound card is acting up maybe your hard drive doesn't have the speed to accomadate playing music and running programs. I have the exact same sound card (platinum though) but with XP and it works fine

uninstall it or just go under the preferences and remove the play when insering an Audio files..

Have the Win2k one right, sort of rounded edge rectangle....and now one is popping up called the creative sound lab, which allows skins etc....am quite happy with the Win2k one...

Also check out some of the creative options, actually mention ripping music off CDs...

If u installed he software properly, there should be a Creative Disc Detector or something that sound like that. Go in the control panel, double-click on the icon and u can specify which program to use with u insert an Audio CD, DVD, VCD or application. Change it to C:\Winnt\System32\cdplayer.exe

This should work. I can't tell u what is the exact name cause i'm not home right now but, i know it will work ;)
