Ok, I'm ready to install Mandrake on my system as a dual boot. Do I need to create another partition on my C: drive before installing it, or will the Mandrake install program setup it's own partition? If I have to create my own partition, can I do it using Fdisk? I'm running Win XP and will be installing madrake on the same drive, so I need some help with exactly how to set this up. I'd use partition magic, but it is like $50 & you can set partitions with Fdisk anyway right?

if you have a clean drive, make one partition for WinXP but leave enough unpartitioned space to make a good sized partition for Mandrake.
Install XP, then install mandrake.

XP is installed on my HD. My whole C: drive is on partition. It's a 30 gig. How can I set up another partition now for Mandrake?

it depends, i don't reccomend making ext2 partitions for mandrake, let the instal program handle that, if you have NTFS then make a fat32 partition and then in the mandrake installation choose use free space on windows partition. Although i guess you could use partition magic to make ext2 partitions. Anyways if you have fat32 then just choose use free space in windows partition and let diskdrake do the rest

I have a second HD that I use to store my MP3s and Divx. It's a 40 gig hd. How about I install Mandrake on that drive instead (keeping my Win XP SAFE!) Ok, now here's where I need help. How about I boot my system up from a Win ME startup disk. Then at the DOS prompt type Fdisk. Can I use Fdisk the same way to setup a second HD as I would with my C: drive? I want to take my D: drive which is 40 gigs, and partition it into 2 logical drives, so I have a 10 gig drive for Mandrake and a 30 gig for media. I have already backed up my D: drive on my C: drive so I'm safe. How does this idea sound?
