Hey John, did you create this site all on your own. Its very impersive. How do you keep track of such a large site. I just put mine up(and its rather small) and im already having trouble keeping track of whats where. Well anyway great job...

No - it is definitely not all my work. James (Limm) started the site off originally, and a lot of the older content was written by him. Keeping track of the content is fairly easy, because the whole site runs off a database on the server. We can access and alter all the pages on the site through a web interface, and then rebuild the HTML. This content management software is another of my creations :D

Karl Moore writes a lot of the content for us now. I keep up the technical and sysadmin side of things, and James looks after a lot of the administration behind the scenes.

That was from before my time, but I believe that they had a crash back several years and lost some data and threads like this are related to that data loss.

since when do you visit CC??? :wave:All the time actually - usually when I feel like bashing someone (like that bigot/intolerant thread that got deleted) ;)

I spend more time in the world events forum playing devils advocate

It could be worse tho.. some members lost many more (megatron lost over 10000 posts! ).

Thankfully now we have a good backup system in place, so the same sort of thing can't happen again.

I lost almost 3,000 posts. When it happened I was at 11,000 and change.

Afterwards I had a little over 8,000.

I can understand how some of us often look at a post count as a representation of phallic prowess, but comparing a loss in its length is just... over-compensatory.

Cross your fingers for a week, walk backwards for a day, and only
eat marmite on toast soaked in tea.

Please don't jinx us like that.

:afrog:

Because he keeps forgetting his name, but remembers it just when he's finishing a post.

At any rate... this is a 10 YEAR OLD THREAD!

It says I don't have permissions to access that page. :(It was announcing that the forum would be down for 30 minutes on Feb 24th 2007 as part of a software upgrade.

I'm surprised that I can still see it, as I would have expected it to expire completely... and I'm glad that most people can't, as the date could easily be missed.

ohh.. okk thanks. :)

And yes I know it's quite an old thread, but for some reason I just like to read old threads. I was searching for "origin of vbforums" when I came across this thread. :)

The "origin of vbforums"? Well, it basically crawled out of a swamp and failed to die.

Now it has goons.

I subscribe to the "Big Bang" theory with respect to the Origins of VBForums.

Modesty forbids me from detailing who was doing the banging. I know you will understand.
