Supercars was class, but if you rewrote it nowadays it would look just a little dated..

I think the RPG's the way to go to be honest. There are two games being written by people on these forums already; Sentience (a turn based 2d strategy game) and Times of War (a 3d real time strategy) so the strategy aspects are already pretty well covered.

Yep, RPG's the way to go - but you'll have to think of something that sets it aside from Myst, FFVII otherwise it's just going to look like their ugly half cousin....

Talking Guess game hasta be RPG

nswan- I never heard of it. Though have 8 players would be hard, but worth it. Could you tell me more about it?

Arbiter- Yeah, and Rpg's are the ones that gain more game time and more people can enjoy them then just shooting stuff...

    --------------------------------------[Warhammer 40K Turn Based RPG]
One of my friends said make a Game with Warhammer 40K units in it, as a turn based game. Which there was a game called Final Liberation, which was made by them, but it stunk.

I might go with that, and make it a rpg too. Either have the user pick there race(Such as Orks, Space Marines, ect.) and have them start as a low rank and work their way up.

Here is a link of info on it:
    http://www.games-workshop.com/40kuniverse/40kuniverse.htm

These are just idea's, and if you like to use them, feel free to. Also if you have more, or have suggestions on the ones that have been said, I for one would be thankful.

    Arrow It looks very detailed...

The game looks great, but it would be hard for vb since you need high fps and large graphics. Maybe a smaller version could work... but, be complicated.

(Maybe something like it, but with micro-cars, and smaller graphics would help the fps.)

    I'm familiar with 40k.

You couldn't really make anything to do with it as it's copyrighted by Games Workshop.

Of course, there's little to stop you changing the names slightly (but sufficiently to avoid lawsuits ).

The first action one you thought up sounds good. A game of that genre that really worked well was Fallout: Tactics.

    Talking Planet Fall

Arbiter- Yeah I could get sued, but it's not like i will mass produce the game. Though, i'd need graphics which i found none so, i think the idea of 40k is gone lol.

Sastraxi- Yeah, and it should be even eaiser the the 40K idea. I'm thinkin maybe a moon, or mars, maybe even a distant planet for the back drop of the plot.

joey o- Yeah I like hyperspeed to, but it just get's old fast...

Btw, my picture is Britney Spears lol... cuz she is a hot super-star lol (it inspires me )

------------------------------[PlanetFall... is that title takin? lol]
Updated: After the world got blown to bits when Aliens attacked, the last surviving soldiers have a very large score to settle... wipe out the home world of the alien scum...

Previous: A turn based game in which you control a company of men land on some planet, while you use the mouse to move ur men all at the same time ur being picked of by alien sharp shooters and ufo's.

Seriously, if you want to make an RPG, get ready for a lot of artwork, unless you want to bore the user with repeditive graphics.

I'm building something now... and I've got a tile-based map happening, a dodge character, and it's growing. But it looks like a 4 year olds drawing (green for grass, blue for water, 1 stick figure).

If you know a friend or someone who has free time for drawing and meshing (3D) then that could help.

    Talking LoL @ battleMallet 52K

    SapphireGreen- LoL

Yeah, Rpg's need the art work... i think designers should get the graphics before they start to code so it's worth while and you could atleast have something to hope for.

I have made countless rpg's with emulated graphics, it was fun to make link battle bowser but, it kinda gets old... i think planetfall would be a cool improvement for rpg's...

I making a small RPG/Tutorial for new user's right now, as i design the graphics and the plot for planetfall.

I'm working on a graphic tile engine set of activeX objects, its designed to allow programmers to simply specifiy which graphics they want to use. it can already handle any size graphics for the tiles and the sprites (i finally added some basic sprite code last night, i got Trees! :P).

on top of providing interfaces to create interfaces, and perform simple tasks (like having sprites move and raising collosion events etc)

the idea is that anyone can quickly create the game engine, ad so only has to worry about coding the game itself.

wether anyone will bother to use it or not remains to be seen, but the landscapes do look good when i use graphics stolen from Ultima Online.

Nirces - If it's as good as you say, I'd use it =P

If ya need a tester I love to try, it sounds very useful. I'm sure everyone would use it.

Sounds Like one of the files is missing, but i took that code in to my lecturer, to show him (the engine is part of a large project for UNi) and it ran fine on his machine. (downloading exactly the same file from that source to install it)

all paths are set to local.

Just up-zip the file (keep path names in tact) to any directory and it should work (theres a couple of sub directories that are hard coded at this time)

    Talking My 100th post hurra!

I've been designeing a scripting language for game specific level writing useing a technique I'm calling programming by exeption.

The script is basid on the old INI system, but the codeing for the modual that reads the file is not finnished.

I may have to ask for help around here later.... but...

If you are considering useing a "script" to define levels, missions, etc then if this sounds cool and you want to know then PM me and I'll come back and post a full explination.

Other wise sorry to intrude here.

alright I did not read through all posts, but there is some thing I extremely miss in new games ever since I have played the settlers II.

I don't think that game was to known around the world, but it definetly was a blast! It was a rts game but not that militaristic much more about settling. everything was pretty cool but what really made it special was the two player mode on one Pc with two mice!!!! You had to buy a modem adapter to put another mouse into the wide comport. Nowadays it gets easier due to the fact that every pc now got 2 (free) com ports for the old fashioned mice, 1 ps2 port for recent mice and of course USB...
well I would love to play a multiplayer splitscreen rts game!!!!!
Sanity is a full time job

    Puh das war harter Stoff!
