ATI Radeon 7500. Not only does it have good 3-D, superior playback quality, but it its $85.
You might need to fiddle with it a bit to get it working, since it's a bit hard to reformat your system (since you don't have the software to reinstall)
If it makes you nervous you can get GAINWARD/CARDEXPERT GEFORCE2 Ti450, GOLDEN SAMPLE, 64MB W/ TV-OUT DDR 4.5ns - RETAIL which overclocks very well and it's almost as good at 3-D stuff. $99.
all prices from www.newegg.com ;)

Backup disc? Eh?
Well if you can format I'd go for the 7500. Just that when switching from NVIDIA to ATI without reformating or reinstalling, I hear it acts funny sometimes...

You could probably keep whatever card you have and get one of those new cards from Hollywood Magic (whatever they're called, the ones that make the DVD hardware decoders). It has component video out which is pretty cool ;)

He wants good 3-D performance too..he has a Geforce2 MX, not sure if its a 200 or a 400
You have one and you probably know how it isn't the best for gaming =P

Yeah, but don't shove it in my face.. you know when I got it I was upgrading from a Savage chipset and since I got triple the framerates as I did before I was all like "YEAH! GF2MX BABY!" but now I'm like "I WANT 8500".
Anyways what I play is Counter-Strike and I've never had a problem... By the way, would this be an OK gaming rig...?
Athlon XP 1700+
Radeon 8500 (AIW if I can afford it, my question is can I overclock it and get the same 3D performance as the non-AIW?)
256mb DDR
KT266A (or something like that) mobo
Oh, and one more thing. Does anyone know how choppy 3D is on a flat panel? I'm thinking of getting one, but if not I'll just get the flat 21" that I've been eyeing... ;)

yes that would own, but there are new chipsets (KT333CE), CPUs (0.13u AMDs), and video cards (Radeon 8800) coming out within the next 2 weeks
This is the worst time you can possibly pick to buy a new system
as for the flat panels they kinda suck for games as you get the ghosting effect so just get a flat CRT
BTW no offense intended with the video, i'd be happy if upgrading from savage :p and the MX is playable at low resolutions so better than nothing

Well not really. I have a Celeron 533 if you didn't know, in other words anything that came out after RtCW is unplayable on my computer. It takes about 20 minutes to load a RtCW level :(
