Ive been working with complex
numbers reciently and im trying to
figure out how the square root of
a nagative number should be represented.
For instance..... Sqr(-x) = i Sqr(x)
Sqr(-16) = i Sqr(16)
(-1)(4) = -4

What should -4 be -4i? :)

i = -1

so -4i would be 4, not -4, therefore 4i should be good.

This is from Algebra 2, Chapter 5, section 6, I believe?

Prog_tom,

i is not equal to negative one. i is equal to the square root of negative 1.

so -4i = -4*(-1)^(1/2).
