...Or does DirectX 8 suck? Who ate DirectDraw?

Regardless, a small query: If I use DirectX 7 for all of my 2D stuff, is Microsoft going to completely remove the DX7 functionality from future versions of DirectX? I haven't been able to find anything on this, but maybe someone else knows...

MS would be shot if they removed DX7. DirectX is designed to be backwards compatible with all other versions.

And DX8 does not suck, its simply geared more toward 3d graphics, which are quickly becoming more and more photorealistic every day. If you need to use 2d stuff, you can do it with polygons, and you get free alpha blending and sprite rotation as the icing.
