bitmaps are too big... is there some way to save them as a jpg or gif?

You can go to any shareware download site (ZDNet, Download.com, etc) and download a graphics program that will do this. One that is simple to use for converting to a variety of different formats is Graphic Workshop Professional.

PictureBox (kinda)
You can download a picturebox (kinda) that is very similiar to vb picturebox sept for it supports gif, jpg and quite a few other here is the file:

Actually... that is shareware... I was looking for a FREE way to do this.
