    ASP & Database

    Hi,

I am connecting to an access database from an asp page.
Is the best way of doing this to call an active x dll from the page ,..the dll can hold all info regarding connection strings etc..

If I have a few users simultaneously , will this have much effect , in relation to the dll?

    I'm not using transaction server.

    Any ideas??
    thanks

    You will need to.

Or at least it's a good idea to.

You can code session management into the dll, but MTS will handle this for you. I'd recommend establishing one connection to the database and reuse it for the different sessions -or- establish a pool of connections to resuse. Just keep the recordset objects separated.

You could just do it all in asp but you will probably get some speed benefit out of using a DLL. But I don't have any numbers to say how much. Plus, using a DLL would make is scalable, since doing all that work in the asp for a large number of users at the same time would stress the computer more than calling a DLL.

But again, I don't have any numbers on this.

From an overall point of view, would i be correct in saying that the best method for connecting to a database from an asp script, is to use an active x dll.

The only issue i have now , is how many users it can handle at once, without using MTS.

MTS scares me a bit , I can see unnecessary problems arising from its use.

    any thoughts?
