Visual C++ Standard and Professional
MS site says that the Professional version of VC++ makes more optimized code (smaller faster etc) than the Standard version. Is this true (well for most appz)? I'm planning to buy the Standar version and I don't want to have a slow compiler for such money.

In some cases, it doesn't really matter (i.e. you can make smaller code than the compiler if you work at it).
However, the optimiser can REALLY do wonders on your loops, and if your program's only small certain things can be assumed about the location of certain data items.
Basically, yeah. Get Pro. The compiler's probably the same speed but your apps won't be...

It's the one that says "Standard" on it.
If the one that comes with the book says Standard then it probably is

No, the standar one isn't free. However the introductory Edition comes with the book, so this is free.
