In VB there is a variety of ways to send mail. It seems that if you want to change the "from" field (for a mass mailer type of program) you need to use an smtp server.

My question is, if your using a dialup connection from home, what smtp server can you use for this? Anyone know of any public servers that will let you send anonymous mail with a program that requires use of an smtp server?

You won't find many servers that allow this, if you even find one. This kind of servers that does not check the domain before accepting an SMTP connection is extremely rare; the only one I've seen was the one I'd forgotten to configure correctly.

This kind of server can be used (and is) for spam, so competent people don't allow this.

Well mass mailings are spam. But it is legal spam if used for advertisement purposes (which is what this is intended for). There are many advertisements that when you do a normal 'reply' it comes back as 'non deliverable'. So there must be servers out there that allow this since I have gotten many types of advertisements using this type of method.

    Please, please... no more spam...

Please, all I can do is to urge you to reconsider what you are trying to do... The world is already way, way too full of junk spam mail. BTW, nearly all spam is advertisment of some sort, and it dosen't make it any more right (even if it is, by some freak loophole that we forgot to plug, legal). BUT NOBODY WANTS IT!!!! EVER!!!!

I know this has nothing to do with VB, but it has to be said. You are about to join the Dark Side. Whatever reason you may have to do this, trust me, it's not worth it. Spammers are just about the lowest form of life (and I use the term lightly) on the planet.

Although I have a feeling this will not discourage you in any way, I just had to at least try. If we can stop just one spammer from starting up, that's millions of junk emails that we woun't have to waste time deleting.

Anyone else who has an opinion on the matter, please respond...
