ie 5.5 removal from windows 98

i'm having a problem with ie 5.5. when i try to re-install, it gives a message 'previous installation was not completed...' installation then terminates.

the add/remove also shows same message.

i'm at a dead end. help!

p.s. where does it keep info related to installation? if in the registry, where exactly?
