How would I link to a table in a database that is not on the same computer as the primary database?

I know I can map a drive and do it, but if I move the fiile to another computer it will then be looking for the same share (e:\) as my mapped drive and that might not be correct.

I am assuming there must be a way to link through an IP address instead of E:\... so it will work anywhere.

Am I correct in this assumption?
