read the docs and try the examples
look at http://www.redrival.com/voodoovb/
for good tutorials too.
to use DX is a project go to Project>References> and check the "Direct X 7 for VB" thingy.
now you can use DX. check out the url above for simple tutorials which are better than MS ones :)
