Unhappy How do you get an avatar to show up???

    Hmmmm.

I really like this place. But...

...this avatar business is a real bugger.

I reckon the ones some of you have a really wicked but I can't even figure out how to get a simple 'still life' JPEG to appear.

I went into my profile and into edit avatar, clicked 'yes' option for a custom avatar and then selected to upload a file on my computer (no 'fisticated 'nuf to have a www). The file is JPEG 50 x 48 pix weighing in @ 6k.

But, all that appears in the spot where the avatar should be is the nasty "pic missing" cross.

Anyways... if there is some moderator wandering around out there with an understanding of the error I have made please let me know.

    As you can probably see...

    No avatar.

How you guys get ones that wink, blink and twirl around is byond me!

If mine had any moves maybe it'd show up.

I just need to give it a good shake!

    The avatar that is.

No, you should be using http://www.vbforums.com instead of the other one.

Zip the image and attach it to a reply; I'll try it.

Try converting it to a GIF, maybe?

What program did you make it in? Maybe the program is putting special data in the file that no other program can understand.

I don't. Photoshop and even Paint (Windows 98/Me/2000/XP at least) can.

This is the JPEG: God rot it's very soul!

    Hi Filbert11111...111.1...1

Here is that JPEG. Let me know what you think.

I'll try a GIF as well ... later.

    Thanks for the advice.

    Talking Hey!!!!

    Will you look at that!

    This is me...

... thanks for the applause (bows deeply).

This is a GIF. So, I reckon that advice about JPEG loading up is rubbish.

I will now experiment with animated GIF. My face will either disappear or grow bigger as I fiddle around.

Last chance to look upon this handsome visage 'ere it is hid from't world by the comforting screen of masque.

    Thanks for all your help.
