Much better drivers for your Live! - they have all sorts of groovy features on them.

This driver is not compatible with Win2000 - So don`t ask me if it is!Crap!

Oh yeah, that :(
I suppose it's because of the lack of DHA in Win2K.

Damnit!
What's DHA and what "groovy features"?

DHA - Direct Hardware Access...I just got bored with always typing that in posts about Win2K :p
Groovy features:
Separate unlimited insertion effects and 4 auxiliary effects busses PER INPUT SOURCE. Also 8ms latency for your audio when using software such as Cubase VST.

However, it's got better MIDI-output time accuracy, and sets up the SP/DIF 48khz timeclock signal properly. And I think it fixes a panning bug :) There's also information on how to get round a circuit bug on the board.

Yep. Apparently the rear channel signal is 180 degrees out from what it should be.

not exactly a minor screw-up then

Not really. Although, it makes it easy to fix. Just reverse the polarity on your rear (or front) speakers so that they push when they should pull and vice versa.

It's a modified version of existing drivers from E-MU Systems so I suppose it's up to them.

They designed the EMU10K1 chip used on the SB Live!, and in the Audio Production System (which is where the drivers are adapted from, since it's the same chip and a lot of the board components are the same).
Creative Technology mass-produced the 10K1 chip to make it more cost-effective. The EMU10K2 chip is now out, used in the newest SB cards, due to be released soon.

Ok. The SB Live! has a main audio processing chip on it.
This is the EMU10K1 chip.
It was designed by E-MU Systems, and manufactured by Creative.

No problem :)
The main thing is, a specific E-MU product called the APS (Audio Production System) is very similar to the SB Live! internally, and the drivers could be adapted to the Live!. This is what was done.
